Skoda Fab42a left the Russian market back in 2021, when the production cycle of the second generation model was completed. But in Europe, Fabia is still in service and finds 100-150 thousand buyers annually. The third generation car lasted seven years on the assembly line, and now it has been replaced by the "fourth" Fabia.

Little Skoda has remained true to the corporate identity with an abundance of facets. The headlamp scowl and wide grille are in keeping with the older models, but the Fabia is the first to find horizontal taillights with additional sections on the fifth door.

LED headlights are already "in the base", although you will have to pay extra for diode taillights. Wheels with a diameter of 14 to 18 inches are offered.

The engineers did a good job on aerodynamics. The Cd coefficient has been reduced from 0.32 to 0.

28 - also thanks to active flaps in the lower part of the radiator, which are opened electronically only when necessary. The developers claim that when driving at a speed of 120 km / h, these dampers can reduce fuel consumption by 0.2 l / 100 km.

But the main thing is that Fabia has become noticeably larger and more spacious. The wheelbase in one fell swoop has grown by 94 mm (up to 2564 mm), and the overall length - by 111 mm (up to 4108 mm).

The width has also become larger by a weighty 48 mm (up to 1780 mm). According to these parameters, the new Skoda Fabia is already comparable to the fourth generation Volkswagen Golf hatchback! At the same time, the height has decreased by 8 mm (1459 mm). The luggage compartment volume under the shelf has grown from 330 to 380 liters, and with the rear row of seats folded down - from 1150 to 1190 liters.

There is a surprise in the interior: the new Fabia became the first modern Skoda with round ventilation deflectors. Previously, the company did not allow itself such a "liberty", although the central deflectors are still rectangular and are now located under the screen of the media system.

There are three head units with screens of 6.5, 8.0 or 9.2 inches to choose from, and the most expensive multimedia has a navigator, Internet access (eSIM) and automatic updates.

Unlike the Octavia, a separate climate control panel has been retained, and the classic rotary switch for outdoor lighting is in place.

The basic instruments are analog, but a virtual instrument cluster with a 10.25-inch screen is now offered for a surcharge. The interior lighting has been expanded: for example, there are diodes in the area of the door handles.

Base Fabias are still "proletarian", although six airbags and stability control are standard. But the list of options has been significantly expanded.

For example, it first introduced heated steering wheel and windshield, panoramic roof, dual-zone climate control and adaptive cruise control Travel Assist. And from now on, you can order a knee pillow for the driver and side airbags for rear passengers.

The front passenger seat can be equipped with a folding backrest and Isofix attachments. Fabia also has 43 solutions from the Sim30ly Clever series. For example, this is a USB-C connector at the base of the salon rear-view mirror, a niche for an umbrella in the driver's door (until recently, only Superb had such a solution), separate pockets for smartphones, a lot of hooks and niches for little things, plus a hammock in the trunk.

And there is also an additional net, fixed at the bottom of the luggage rack and withstanding a load of up to 3.5 kg.

Skoda Fabia has moved to the modular platform MQB-A0 (the "third" Fabia uses only its elements), which is already familiar from the European models Volkswagen Polo, Audi A1 and Seat Ibiza. This made it possible not only to expand the range of electronic systems, but also to keep the weight of the grown car at the same level thanks to the optimized body structure and chassis. True, the reduced volume of the fuel tank also made its contribution: 40 liters instead of 45 for the previous model.

For a surcharge, you can order a tank of 50 liters.

Fabia lost its diesel engines back in 2021, so the new model has only gasoline engines of the Evo series in its arsenal. This is a three-cylinder aspirated 1.0 MPI (65 or 80 hp), a turbo-turbo 1.0 TSI (95 or 110 hp), and a turbocharger 1.

5 TSI with a capacity of 150 hp. with. with a system for shutting off half of the cylinders. And no hybrids! Even the "soft" ones.

All three-cylinder engines up to 100 horsepower are aggregated with a five-speed manual transmission.

Hatchbacks with a 110-horsepower engine have a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed DSG robot, and the top 150 horsepower version is equipped with a DSG transmission by default. The most powerful Fabia can accelerate to 100 km / h in 7.9 seconds and reach a maximum of 225 km / h.

New Skoda Fabia hatchbacks will appear on the European market this summer. The Fabia Combi station wagon will also remain in the range, but its debut will take place later - perhaps only in 2022.

The fact is that the development of the station wagon began with a delay, because it was originally supposed to completely replace it with the Skoda Kamiq SUV. But, alas, even a basic hatchback will not appear in Russia: the Rapid will continue to play the role of the basic Skoda.
